Job Description
Job Purpose:
 
To plan, schedule, supervise or personally carry out the preventive maintenance and repair of the plant and equipment necessary for the continuous, efficient, economical and safe operation of the Company's vessels (during all modes of operation, including pipe laying and heavy lifting) to which he is assigned when working offshore. 
To ensure maximum equipment availability/minimum disruption of operations by following established / manufacturer's procedures & liaising with operations team. 
To physically operate the jack-up systems as per the operating manual instructions and system limits once he is assigned to jack-up barges.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
 
Allocates jobs to, and supervises the activities of the mechanics, electricians, electronics technicians and other artisans under his control.
Personally diagnoses faults and carries out tasks that are outside the capability or scope of his subordinates.
Ensures that the spare parts necessary for the plant, equipment and machinery on the vessel are maintained at optimum levels, without undue overstocking.
Ensures manufacturer’s maintenance procedures/frequencies are complied with and that only recommended fuels and lubricants are used.
Ensures that work areas are kept clean and that safe working practices are employed.
Maintains appropriate records of work done and consumables used.
Carries out on-the-job training of subordinates on a continuous programme and initiates assessment reports as requested by the AI-Offshore Engineers for administrative purposes.
Ensures operators abide by established/safe operating procedures and practices and equipment is used within predetermined capacities.
Proposes, plans and prepares scope of required major work on idle vessel plant, equipment and installations. Liaises with AI-Offshore Engineers for the procurement of the required parts & material/assists in planning/executing/monitoring and supervising the Company or subcontracted work.
Proposes any modification deemed necessary to improve safety/availability of equipment time and to meet special requirements for operations. Supervises/executes same after approvals.
Assists in preparing dry dock repairs/renovation scope of work. Assists in follow-up & supervision of dry docking subcontractors.
Desired Candidate Profile
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
 
Secondary education followed by trade school training in mechanical, air conditioning and electrical maintenance - equivalent to 3 years full time - and 12 years diversified experience in related machinery and equipment maintenance/repairs including at least 4 years in a supervisory position for the following specialized equipment:
 
Pile top Drilling Equipment.
Derrick Cranes (to 4000 Ton).
Pipe laying Tensioners (50 T & Over).
Steam/Hydraulic Piled Driving Hammers.
High Pressure Grout Pumps.
Electrical / Electronic / HVAC equipment & installations.
Variable frequency drives.
 
Additional Special Factors:
 
The job holder is required to diagnose reasons for breakdown of vessel plant and equipment and to carry out necessary repairs quickly and safely, when defective equipment is putting the whole marine spread on standby. This is essential to minimise time lost by a whole spread of vessels/Company-subcontractors clients personnel, when engaged in offshore work
